Build work

We build tools for the hardship process.

For people in financial trouble, and for the services that help them. TEKVA is a registered Australian charity. We build our own free tools, and we take a small number of build projects for other community organisations.

Under financial pressure yourself? The tools and guides are free. Start there.

What we build

The person's side of financial hardship

Tools that turn a bad situation into a next step: a hardship letter ready to send, a plan for the fortnight after a job ends, a clear answer on which bill matters first.

Counsellors and support workers can use the same tools to prepare cases faster. Same engine, two doors.

We don't build case management systems, directories or comparison sites. Others do that well. We build the layer between a person's situation and their next step, and we build it to be reused.

How we work

Three commitments, every build

You own everything

Builds run on your infrastructure, under your control. Your data never touches our systems. When we finish, you hold the keys. No lock-in, no hosting dependency, no ongoing licence.

The generic parts go open

Code we build for you that any service could use is released under an open licence. Your grant or budget builds something that outlives your project, for you and for the sector.

Charity rates

TEKVA is a registered charity (PBI, DGR‑1). We price to cover the work. Fixed price per scoped build, agreed before we start.

How we keep it safe

Built inside the rules a charity lives with

We build with financial counsellors. Our tools are shaped by their review and feedback, from TEKVA's own FCAN-registered Financial Counsellor and from reviewers across the sector.

Our tools are built privacy-first: no logins where possible, no stored personal information by default, and nothing sent to AI systems in a tool's core loops. Where AI helps us draft internally, a human decides.

TEKVA's tools provide information, not financial counselling or advice. We do not provide legal advice, tax advice or regulated financial product advice.

What we've shipped

Working with us

A small number of projects, done properly

We take a small number of build projects for community services, peak bodies and agencies in the financial counselling and hardship space. The fit is simple: the work helps people in financial trouble, you keep ownership, and the generic layer can go open.

If that sounds like your project, write to dave@tekva.org.au. Tell us what you're trying to build and when you need it.

Financial counselling at TEKVA is delivered by an FCAN-registered Financial Counsellor. Financial capability support is provided by a Financial Capability Worker, whose scope is capability support only — no credit advice or creditor negotiation. Credit advice and creditor negotiation sit with our Financial Counsellor. We also provide crisis triage, practical support, and referral coordination. We do not provide AFSL-licensed financial product advice, legal advice, or insolvency advice. Where another service is the better fit, we'll help connect you with community services, tenancy help or specialist legal support.
